SEA MARVEL School Challenges in Sicily

The challenge which will take place in the “Marine Protected Area of the Cyclopean Isles”, in Aci Trezza, will see the involvement of the participating schools from Catania.

The winners will be offered a school trip to Malta, in order to meet the classes which have participated in the project and to get to know the rich biodiversity in the Natura 2000 sites located in Malta.

The school trip is planned for the next school year, in September 2023, and the dates will be agreed with the schools involved. All the travel costs for students and supervisors, guided tours included, will be borne by SEA MARVEL.

The challenge will take place in the “Marine Protected Area of the Cyclopean Isles”, in Aci Trezza.

During the challenge, the guides operating in the Marine Protected Area will describe the features of the Natura 2000 site. Subsequently, all the classes will work together on a common project which will consist in the drafting of an Action Plan to protect biodiversity, and they will fully commit in involving the whole local community.

The works will be then collected and evaluated by a jury, which on the 8 June during the World Oceans Day, will announce the winning class of the school trip.
