Alessandra Raffa
Research fellow involved in the “Sea Marvel – Save, Enhance, Admire Marine Versatile Life” project at the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment (Di3A), University of Catania with a grant entitled “Monitoring of marine fauna and fishing activities, and protection of biodiversity in the Sicily-Malta cross-border area”. She first graduated in Marine Biology and Ecology in 2014 at the University of Messina and in 2017 at the Polytechnic University of Marche with a Master degree in Marine Biology. She finished her PhD in Environmental Sciences in 2021 at the University of Catania, with a thesis entitled “Mullus barbatus L., 1758 and Mullus surmuletus L., 1758 as bioindicators of marine environmental contamination: analysis of exposure and effect biomarkers”. During the PhD, she used techniques such as histology, Real-Time PCR, ELISA. Since 2017 she has contributed to the collection of data for bluefin tuna and swordfish fishing campaigns, as National Observer of Bluefin Tuna.
