Enrico Giarrusso
He was born in ‘92 and got a Bachelor’s degree in Natural and Environmental science at the University of Catania and a Master’s degree in Marine Biology at the University of Bologna. His studies were focused on fishing activities, in particular: main commercial species, by-catch, fishing gears, fishing effort and stock assessment. In 2016 he took part in the SOLEMON survey with the CNR of Ancora (Italy), collecting and analyzing macrozoobenthos specimens and italian common sole’s (Solea solea) otoliths. In 2017 he started a work about genetic and morphological studies of Squalus specimens in the strict of Sicily, in collaboration with the CNR of Mazara del Vallo (Trapani, Italy) and the BiGeA Lab of University of Bologna, extracting and amplificating mitochondrial DNA for population analysis. In 2018 he became a ICCAT National Observer for bluefin tuna fishing, working on board of TUG ship for trawling tuna cages. He is also a recreational Divemaster diver, technical and experienced in scientific diving.
Currently, he is a research fellow for the Sea Marvel project on Sustainable Management of marine biological resources.
